At The Gainsborough Academy students follow a curriculum outlined by the government but adapted to ensure they reach their full potential. We know that not every student is the same. To achieve the best from our students we identify their needs and endeavour to fulfil them.

Therefore, students are grouped based on ability and their lessons are designed to not only meet their needs but ensure they feel challenged and engaged.

All students follow a timetable of 20 lessons per week.

Students who require additional support will be removed from French and/or ICT to receive additional lessons of Literacy and Numeracy.

In Y8, students will have the opportunity to choose their two favourite subjects within Creative Arts and have one lesson per week of each.

During KS4, students will study their core subjects alongside the subjects they have chosen as their options. A list of the full subjects available to take as an option can be found on this website along with details regarding the options process.

A breakdown of the lessons taught at KS4 can be found below.  Core subjects are highlighted in red and every student will take part in these lessons.

Students who require intervention/additional support will study towards 2 or 3 options and work with the learning mentors on their core subjects or within our Alternative Provision as required.

To support KS4 from June 2018 the Curriculum offer is being updated to give students in Year 9 the opportunity to start their examined programme of study. Please see link for additional information.
