Gainsborough Goal Rush
It was a slow start for Gainsborough Academy year 8 team in the away fixture. The early chances fell to the home team who soon earning a corner. The curling corner was struck towards the corner of the goal only to be cleared off the line by captain Josh Cutts with the follow up shot just missing the target. Gainsborough began to gain more possession of the ball and soon grew in confidence. Gainsborough began to pass the ball around and pull the home team out of position. On fifteen minutes a defence splitting pass released Bradley Smith who beat the advancing keeper with a cool finish in the bottom corner. Bradley Smith soon returned the favour with the cross of the game to set up Bailey Essom who placed it in the bottom corner for the second goal. Gainsborough were controlling possession and creating more chances. The home side cleared a Gainsborough corner that was met with an unstoppable shot into the top corner from Tyler La Rocca. The home side came back into the game passing the ball around and stretching the Gainsborough defence on several occasions. Ben Day made several crucial saves to keep the three goal advantage. Defence soon turned to attack with some quick accurate passing that created space for Bradley Smith to find the top corner from the edge of the area. In the seconds before half time Bradley Smith again turned provider to set up Jenson East who placed it into the bottom corner to give Gainsborough a well-deserved half time five goal lead.
At half time Billy Battiste was brought on to support a tiring Gainsborough defence. The second half was very close with the home team winning the majority of tackles and creating several chances. Ben Day was the busiest of the keepers in the second half supported by solid performances in the centre of defence by Josh Cutts and Tyler Gravel. On fifty minutes Chezney Kelsey made an important interception then passed to Dylan Lowther who crossed for Tyler La Rocca to volley in the first goal of the second half. The home side were disappointed after a good start to the half but bounced back and got on the score sheet with a well taken team goal for 6 -1. Mr Leng made a tactical change with Joe Holtom moving into midfield where he soon created chances for others. With time running out Joe Holtom set up Tyler La Rocca who chipped the keeper for his hat trick and earning himself the man of the match award. A great team effort that was played in a great spirit by both sides. Well Done Gainsborough Academy year 8 football team.
